Are you writing a musical? Do you want to write a musical? Throughout this three-hour workshop, Kate Ryan and Steven Greenfield will facilitate a conversation about how musicals work, and how to write your own. What are the golden rules of the well-made musical, and how can those expectations be subverted? Along with a healthy dose of music theatre history, great examples and smart ideas, participants will engage in exercises that will make them think critically of their favourite (or not-so-favourite) musicals, and what makes them tick (or not!). Walking through the stages of developing a musical, the workshop will culminate in a mock pitch session where participants will have the opportunity to celebrate and receive feedback on a musical that they are in the process of or dreaming of creating or adapting. All experience levels encouraged!
